My landlord banned window units and I'd been sweating through every summer for three years. This is light enough to carry from room to room in one trip. I filled the pull-out tank at the sink, dropped in the frozen ice packs, and the air blowing at my bed near the unit was cool enough that I slept through the whole night for the first time since June. No window. No drama. No landlord involved.

My home office hits 90°F by noon in summer. This is efficient — runs all day without meaningfully affecting my electric bill. The 3 wind modes let me switch between Normal for general circulation and Sleep mode for quiet running during calls. I hit COOL when it's really bad. Nobody on Zoom calls hears it.

At 68 I can plug it in anywhere — no setup, no installation, no window needed. At 9 lbs I move it between rooms easily. The glossy black top panel controls are large and clearly labeled. My sunroom is finally comfortable all afternoon.

"I actually cried. I forgot what cool air felt like."

"Three summers of sleepless nights in my Brooklyn apartment. My landlord wouldn't budge on window units. I ordered this on a Thursday. By Friday night the air blowing at my bed was noticeably cooler than the room — enough that I finally slept through the night. I sat on my bed and cried. I'd forgotten what sleeping cool felt like."

"My landlord has been in my apartment twice. Never even noticed it."

"He sent me a formal lease violation over my window unit last summer. I spent the whole season miserable with box fans. This just sits there. No window mod, no installation, nothing for him to complain about. I finally have my apartment back."

Mike S.

"My electric bill dropped from $410 to $195. Same month. Same heat."

"I'm a numbers person. July: $410 with central AC running all day. August: $195 using this in the rooms we're actually in. Same house, same family of four, same brutal summer. This pays for itself in about three weeks. The math doesn't lie."

9 lbs and 55W — I run this all day and barely notice it on my bill

I've owned four portable AC units. Every one was heavy, loud, and expensive to run all day. The AirNova is light enough that I pick it up and move it between my bedroom and office every morning. My smart plug shows it costs almost nothing to run 8 hours daily. Plug it in, fill the pull-out tank at the sink, drop in the frozen ice packs, press COOL. The washable filter rinses clean in 5 minutes. Evaporative cooling — no compressor, no hose, no drama. Genuinely the right size for a single room. No window. No landlord drama.

UPDATE: 11 months — still working perfectly, running every night

Original review (August): Just got this. Light enough to carry anywhere. Fill the pull-out tank at the sink, drop in the frozen ice packs, press COOL — that's the whole setup. 3 modes cover every situation. 3-month update: Running every day in Texas heat. Electric bill down from $340 to $185/month. Evaporative coolers are just wildly more efficient than compressor units. 6-month update: First unit works like day one. Added a second for the living room. 11-month update: Third unit for my home office. The evaporative cooling just keeps running day after day. The washable filter has never been replaced — just rinsed. The 2 ice packs still freeze and refreeze like day one. Zero issues.

HVAC contractor — an honest evaporative cooler with a genuinely convenient tank

I evaluate portable AC units professionally, and I want to be clear about what this is: an evaporative cooler, not a refrigerant AC. It works by pulling air through a water-saturated pad. That's why there's no hose and no window — nothing to exhaust. Any product marketed as truly windowless is evaporative by physics. Within that category, the AirNova makes two design decisions I like. First: the removable pull-out water tank. Most evap coolers force you to pour water in through a top opening — messy, awkward. This one slides out the back, goes to the sink, slides back in. Small design decision, big daily quality-of-life improvement. Second: 3 distinct wind modes plus a separate COOL button. Normal for circulation, Natural for a variable-speed breeze feel, Sleep for quiet overnight — and COOL toggles the water pump on when you want the pad actively cooling the air. Most budget units cram everything into one cycling button. Note: needs a 10A+ circuit, so verify your outlet in older buildings.

My landlord thought it was an air purifier. Never questioned it once.

My landlord banned window units and anything that looks like an AC. He's done two inspections this summer. The AirNova's two-tone black and white design — glossy black top, white body — looks more like a premium humidifier or air purifier than an air conditioner. He looked at it both times, said nothing. No window modification. No hose. No installation. It just sits there looking like a stylish appliance. I plug it in and it runs all day with zero drama. The 3 wind modes mean I switch to Sleep mode at night without getting up — remote handles it from bed. Best summer I've had in this apartment in four years.

Engineer — measured what evaporative cooling actually does in my bedroom

Engineer. I measure things. Fair warning up front: this is an evaporative cooler, not a refrigerant AC. If you expect a compressor unit's fixed setpoint on the whole room, you'll be disappointed. If you understand what evap cooling is and use it right, it works. Air temp at the vent (12 inches from the unit) in my 180 sq ft bedroom, water in tank + 2 frozen ice packs, COOL button on: - Ambient room: 82.4°F - Air blowing out at the vent: 68.9°F — a real 13.5°F delta - Perceived temp near the bed (about 4 ft away): felt noticeably cooler, enough to sleep Room-average dropped a few degrees over 40 minutes but the point is the airflow at YOU, not the whole room. Position it accordingly. Energy: measured with a smart plug. Fraction of what a compressor unit draws. All 3 wind modes tested. Sleep mode is the quietest — measurably lower dB. Natural mode varies speed in a random pattern that genuinely feels less mechanical. Circuit: draws well under 10A but the manual specifies a 10A+ outlet — worth checking on an older circuit.

My 76-year-old mother — 9 lbs means she does everything herself

My mother is 76 and lives alone. She needed something she could manage completely independently. She carries it between her bedroom and living room without asking for help. No installation, no complicated setup — she just plugs it in and presses the power button. The labeled buttons on the glossy black top — ON/OFF, SPEED, TIMER, MODE, COOL, SWING — are large enough to read without glasses. The pull-out water tank slides out at the sink so she doesn't have to lift a pitcher. The remote lets her adjust it from her armchair. She called me after the first night. She said she'd slept better than she had in three years. With simple button operation and a sink-friendly tank, this is the right unit for elderly users living alone. (One small note: her old apartment had 5A outlets in the bedrooms — we had to plug it into the kitchen circuit. Check your outlet rating before ordering.)

Correct — no window, no hose, no installation. The AirNova is an evaporative cooler: room air is drawn through a water-saturated cooling pad, evaporation pulls heat out of the airstream, and the air blowing out the front comes out 10-15°F cooler than it went in. Freeze the 2 included sealed ice packs and drop them in the tank for an extra cooling boost.

To be straight with you: this is NOT a refrigerant/compressor AC. Those units physically MUST have a hose or window vent to exhaust heat — that's just physics. Anything genuinely windowless is, by definition, evaporative. That's what the AirNova is. It cools the air blowing at you (not the whole room like central AC) — position it where you actually sit and it works wonderfully.

Setup: fill the removable pull-out tank at the sink, drop in the frozen ice packs, plug into any 10A+ standard outlet, press COOL. That's it.

The water tank pulls straight out from the bottom of the back — carry it to the sink, fill with clean tap water between the MIN and MAX marks, slide it back in. No pitchers, no funnels, no leaks. Most competing evap coolers make you pour water in through the top; this one doesn't.

For extra cooling, freeze the 2 included sealed cooling-gel ice packs (put them in your regular freezer). Once frozen, drop them into the water tank alongside the water. The frozen packs chill the tank water, which chills the cooling pad, which chills the air blowing out. On the hottest days this is what makes the airflow feel noticeably colder.

Do NOT open the ice packs. They're permanently sealed. Opening them can damage the water pump and the gel inside isn't food-safe. Freeze them sealed, use them sealed, refreeze them sealed. They're designed to last many summers of daily cycling.

You get 3 fan speeds (LOW / MID / HIGH), 3 wind modes, and a separate COOL button that engages the water pump for active evaporative cooling. That's more granular control than most units offer.

  • COOL button: engages the water pump so air moves through the wet cooling pad — this is what actually produces the cooler air. Press it once water and frozen ice packs are in the tank.
  • Normal mode: steady constant-speed airflow. Good for general daytime running.
  • Natural mode: variable-speed airflow that changes randomly like a natural breeze — feels less mechanical, good for the wind-down hour before sleep.
  • Sleep mode: lowest speed, lowest noise — designed for overnight running.

The remote lets you switch modes and speeds without getting up.

Maintenance is simple. Rinse the washable air filter and the wet curtain (cooling pad) with clean water every 1-2 weeks with a soft brush and a mild cleaner. Wipe out the pull-out water tank when you refill it. That's the entire upkeep — no cartridges to buy, no replacement filters, no special tools. Always unplug before cleaning, and keep water off the control panel. If anything ever comes up, Breeze AC's 30-Day Guarantee and our US-based support team are here to help.

Sleep mode runs at the lowest fan speed and minimum noise — designed specifically for overnight running. The 12-hour timer covers a full overnight block. The remote means you adjust it from bed without getting up. We have reviews from night shift nurses, new parents, dorm students, and hot flash sufferers who run it in their space every night specifically in Sleep mode. Natural mode is also popular for pre-sleep wind-down — its variable-speed pattern feels less intrusive than constant-speed modes.

Yes — no installation needed. AirNova plugs into any standard 120V outlet, so as long as you have shore power, a generator, or a compatible inverter setup delivering at least a 10A circuit, you're good to go. Its compact form factor fits easily in tight RV and trailer spaces, and it's simple to store between trips. As an evaporative cooler, it works especially well in dry Southwest climates where humidity is low. Van-lifers, weekend campers, and full-time RVers have all left positive reviews.
